Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church
Host a “Come & See” Discernment Retreat

On October 3 & 4, the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Church, welcomed twelve young women to their first “Come and See” retreat held at Immaculate Heart Retreat Center.   Attendees came from as far away as St. Louis, MO and as close as Hillyard, WA to experience the consecrated religious life with the Sisters.  Guests ranged in age from seventeen to twenty-seven and came from a variety of backgrounds.  Amanda, from Wisconsin, is finishing her senior year in high school while Ashley, from Missouri, is finishing her PhD in biochemistry.  Meghan and Therese traveled to Spokane by bus from Yakima where they are ministering in the REACH program this year.

During the event, which began on the evening of Friday, October 3, and ended on the evening of October 4, the young women experienced a snapshot of the Sisters’ life.  Eucharistic adoration, recreation, common prayer and presentations on the apostolates filled the hours all to quickly.  Additional talks on consecrated life with Q & A sessions completed the day’s events.

Fr. Darrin Connall, director of vocations for the diocese of Spokane, offered a conventual Mass during the “Come and See” and shared his thoughts on the vision of the Sisters’ role in the life of the Church, specifically in the Northwest.

The “Come and See” retreat ended with dinner and an informal concert of some of the Sisters’ favorite songs.   Please pray for the four young women who are actively beginning the application process to the Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church.  New candidates will be accepted into the community in the Summer of 2009. ( link to original article in Inland Register.)
